Personal Interests

Geoff likes to keep active, both mentally and physically. His legal practice and directorships, and the resulting time commitments, largely take care of his need for intellectual stimulus. He is currently in his fifties and fully expects to continue practising law well into his eighties. He is a keen family man and puts a lot of time into raising his two daughters, Cameron and Brooke (born in 1999 and 2000 respectively), as well as supporting his wife Sue’s leisure pursuits. Like Sue, his major passion is sport and recreation. Both are keen tennis players, snow skiers, and windsurfers. As a youngster, Geoff played rugby football continuously for over 30 years (albeit with only modest success) and enjoyed swimming and surfing. Subsequently he took up more adventurous pursuits such as marathon running, scuba diving, caving, bungy jumping (5 at last count, including one from a helicopter) and riding his 1995 softail custom Harley Davidson. He has served as a first aid ski patroller in Canada, and as President of the New Zealand Windsurfing Association Inc. He has travelled extensively throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, Canada, USA, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and India.

She has always been a keen runner and now spends most of her leisure time in pursuit of the challenges of long distance running (mostly off-road). She has completed several marathons which have developed into a passion for ultra running. In what remaining time is left, she is fully occupied managing Madison Hardy, the Hardy household, and her two school-age daughters who are themselves very active. Sue enjoys travel and, having spent some time living in the UK, took the opportunity to travel through Ireland and various European countries. The highlight for her was backpacking through Asia, including two months travelling overland through India and Nepal.

  • 2007-2012: LLB(Hons), University of Auckland (Faculty of Law Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence)

Personal Interests

Law is Meika’s second career. Her first career might have been as a mathematician as, due to an unusual set of circumstances, Meika entered the University of Auckland aged 14 and took papers in Calculus and Algebra. Her passions, however, lay elsewhere. From a young age Meika pursued ballet, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. At age 11 she was the junior national rhythmic gymnastics champion but her true love was ballet. At the age of 15, Meika was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. Two years later, Meika decided to forge her ballet career in Europe, so she set up her life in Munich, Germany and quickly absorbed the German language. Within a year she was dancing with the state ballet company (Bayerisches Stattsballett). Meika then moved to Dresden where she spent 8 years dancing in one of the world’s most beautiful opera houses; the Semperoper. Meika worked her way up the ranks to be promoted to soloist status. She was also the company representative of around 60 dancers and it was this role that sparked her interest in law.

Meika has travelled extensively. Some of her most memorable trips were to visit the great pyramids in Cairo, Egypt, the Dead Sea in Israel and the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Meika is a mother to two daughters (born in 2011 and 2013) and she invests a lot of time in raising them. On the side-line, Meika continues to mentor and train aspiring young dancers. She enjoys a night out at the theatre, good food and a variety of outdoor activities.
